Catchdex Privacy Policy

This is the first version of the Catchdex Privacy Policy.
1. Who we are, and our promise to you
Catchdex is an app that helps you identify fish from a photo, build your personal catch collection, and learn about 36 common species. The app is developed by an individual developer ("we", "us").
Here is our promise, in plain words:
- We do not require an account. No registration, no email, no username, no password.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use your data for cross-app advertising or tracking.
- We collect as little as possible.
Most of your data never leaves your device at all. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read by anyone — no legal degree needed.
2. Your rights
You have these rights, and you can use them at any time:

3. What we collect
Short version: almost nothing. Here is the complete list.

What we do not collect (and never will in this version):
- Your name, email address, username, or password — we have no account system
- Your contacts, calendar, or messages
- Precise location — location is optional, only when you type it in for a catch, and it stays on your device
- Data from social media accounts
- Health or financial information
- Anything from your photo library without your explicit choice
Two things we want to be very clear about:
- We do not scan your photo library. We only see a photo when you actively choose it.
- Poor-quality photos (blurry, backlit, overexposed, too dark): we never save the original image. A local check on your device tries to block the worst photos before upload. If a poor-quality photo still reaches our server and identification fails, we keep only basic metadata (the failure reason, not the photo) to understand error patterns. The original photo file is never stored.
4. Identification photos and feedback photos
We answer the two questions people care about most, separately.
Identification photos are not saved. When you identify a fish, the photo is sent to our identification service over an encrypted connection, processed in memory, and released as soon as the identification is complete. We do not save your identification photo on our server. Confirming a catch sends only catch details — never the photo file.
Feedback photos are kept for 90 days — in three cases you should know about.
- Photos you attach in the feedback form. If you choose to attach up to 9 photos to a feedback message (for example, a fish we got wrong), we keep them to review your report. Location data (GPS) and other hidden photo data (EXIF) are removed before storage. They are kept for 90 days and then scheduled for deletion.
- Photos sampled when you confirm a catch. As part of operating and improving the app, we may keep a small sample (about 5%) of photos you confirm as a catch (the server-side passive sampling path) to improve our identification accuracy. This sampling applies only to confirmed catches — not to photos you attach in the feedback form (Section 4.1), and not to non-fish images (Section 4.3).
- Non-fish images (photos containing no fish). If our server determines that a photo you submitted for identification contains no fish, that photo is kept as a negative example (to teach the model what is not a fish) for 90 days. This happens automatically as part of running the service, and is disclosed here so you are aware.
You can email us at support@dagvisio.com at any time to ask us to delete what we have collected from you.
A note about identification results and cooking advice. Fish identification is done by artificial intelligence. AI is not perfect: the result may occasionally be wrong, and it must never be used as a basis for eating, cooking, or buying any fish, or for deciding whether a fish is legal to keep. Handling and cooking notes in the species encyclopedia are general reference only and are not a recommendation to eat any fish. Always follow local fishing laws and, when in doubt, ask a local expert. This is a trust issue for us — see our Terms of Use for the full disclaimer.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
6. Third parties and analytics
Today, we do not share your data with any third party, and we do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or attribution SDK into the app.
We do run lightweight, server-side, aggregate usage statistics on our own infrastructure (for example: how many identifications happen per day, error rates, and general usage trends). These statistics come from our own server access logs (see Section 3), are kept on our own servers in the United States, and are not shared with third parties. They are not used to build a profile of you.
If we ever integrate a third-party SDK or share data with an external provider, we will update this policy to name each provider and what they do, before or at the same time the change takes effect.
What about Apple? Apple runs the App Store, and any future payments would be handled by Apple, not by us. Apple's own privacy practices are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive your payment card details.
7. Security and permissions
We protect your data with industry-standard measures:
- All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS).
- Your device ID and local data are stored in your device's secure storage.
- Our servers are protected by restricted access controls.
NO METHOD OF TRANSMISSION OR STORAGE IS PERFECTLY SECURE. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT UNAUTHORIZED PARTIES WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DEFEAT OUR SECURITY MEASURES. YOU USE THE APP AND TRANSMIT INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Permissions: the app may ask to use your camera or photo library, but only when you actively choose a photo for identification. It never accesses them in the background. Location is optional and used only when you choose to record it with a catch.
8. Children
Catchdex is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us at support@dagvisio.com and we will delete it promptly.
9. International data
Our servers are located in the United States (West Coast). If you use Catchdex from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make a material change, we will post the updated version here with a new "Last Updated" date and, when practical, let you know in the app. We will never materially reduce the protection we give to data we have already collected without telling you and, where the law requires, asking you.

两点特别说明：我们不会后台扫描你的相册，仅在主动选择时看到照片；低质量照片（模糊/逆光/过曝/过暗）绝不保存原图——设备端本地检查会先拦截最差的照片，若仍有低质量照片到达服务器且识别失败，我们只保留失败原因等元数据，原图文件绝不存储。
本版本我们不收集（也不会收集）的信息：
- 姓名、邮箱、用户名或密码——我们没有账号体系；
- 通讯录、日历或消息；
- 精确位置——位置为可选，仅在你主动记录渔获时填写，且只保存在你的设备上；
- 社交账号数据；
- 健康或财务信息；
- 未经你明确选择而从相册获取的任何内容。
4. 识别照片与反馈图片
我们把大家最关心的两个问题分开回答。
- 识别照片：不保存。 识别照片经加密连接上传后，在服务器内存中处理，识别完成即释放，服务器不保存你的识别照片。确认入册只上传渔获信息，不传照片文件。
- 反馈图片：三种情况你需要知道，均保留 90 天。
- 你在反馈表单中主动附图。 若你选择在反馈消息中附上最多 9 张图片（例如我们识别错的鱼），我们保留这些图片用于人工核查。存储前剥离位置（GPS）与 EXIF 等全部隐藏信息。保留 90 天后安排删除。
- 确认入册时的采样。 作为运营和改进 App 的一部分，我们可能按约 5% 的比例，保留你确认入册时的照片（服务端被动采样路径）用于提升识别准确度。该采样仅作用于确认入册的照片——不适用于反馈表单中你主动附图（见 4.1），也不适用于非鱼类照片（见 4.3）。
- 非鱼类照片（图中没有鱼的照片）。 若服务端判定你上传的照片中没有鱼，该照片会作为负样本（教模型识别"什么不是鱼"）保留 90 天。此过程作为服务运行的一部分自动发生，在此披露以确保你知情。
你可随时邮件 support@dagvisio.com 要求删除我们已收集的内容。
关于识别结果与烹饪建议的说明。 鱼类识别由人工智能完成，AI 并非完美：结果偶尔可能出错，绝不能作为食用、烹饪或购买任何鱼类的依据，也不能据此判断某条鱼是否可以合法保留。图鉴中的处理与烹饪信息仅为一般参考，不构成对食用任何鱼类的推荐。 请始终遵守当地渔业法规，拿不准时咨询当地专业人士。这是我们的信任底线——完整免责见《用户协议》。

我们不将你的信息用于广告，也不出售。
6. 第三方与统计
目前我们不与任何第三方共享你的数据，App 内未集成任何第三方分析、广告或归因 SDK。
我们在自己的服务器上运行轻量的服务端聚合用量统计（例如：每日识别次数、错误率、整体使用趋势）。这些统计来自我们自己的服务器访问日志（见第 3 节），存放在我们位于美国的服务器上，不与第三方共享，也不用于构建你的用户画像。
若未来我们集成第三方 SDK 或与外部服务商共享数据，将提前或同步更新本政策，逐一列明服务商及其用途。
Apple 的角色：Apple 运营 App Store，未来若有任何支付将由 Apple 处理，而非我们。Apple 自身的隐私实践适用 Apple 隐私政策。我们不会接触你的支付卡信息。
7. 安全与权限
我们采用行业标准措施保护数据：App 与服务器间全部通信加密（HTTPS）；设备标识与本地数据存储于设备安全存储；服务器有受限访问控制。
任何传输或存储方式都无法做到绝对安全。我们无法保证未经授权者永远不会攻破我们的安全措施。你使用本 App 并传输信息，风险自负。
权限：App 仅在你主动选择照片时请求使用相机或相册，绝不后台访问；位置为可选，仅在你主动记录渔获时使用。
8. 儿童
Catchdex 不面向 13 岁以下儿童，我们不会故意收集 13 岁以下儿童的个人信息。如你认为 13 岁以下儿童向我们提供了个人信息，请邮件 support@dagvisio.com，我们将尽快删除。
9. 国际数据传输
我们的服务器位于美国（西海岸）。如你在美国以外使用 Catchdex，你的数据可能被转移至美国处理，其保护水平可能与你所在国不同。
10. 本政策变更
我们可能不时更新本政策。发生重大变更时，我们将在此发布更新版本并标注新的「最后更新」日期，并在可行时于 App 内通知你。未经告知（且法律要求时经你同意），我们不会实质降低对既有数据的保护。
